Team Work

This term we have been focussing on working as part of a team.

Today we were talking about Guy Fawkes Night and the fun we had with fireworks last night.

Lily had a GREAT idea.  I was almost as excited as Lily when I heard her explain her great idea!

Lily suggested all of the c hildren work together to make a great art work by splattering paint onto black paper.

First Lily had to go for a run around the school to find some big pieces of black paper - thanks to Room 23 for helping us out with this!

Later in the day Nicky was working in our class.  She helped the children to splatter paint on the black paper and sprinkle glitter on it.

The end result is rather impressive - check in out in our classroom soon!

Thanks Lily for sharing your great idea.

Art Fun

We continued with our amazing artwork on Friday.

The children painted their person with black paint during the week.

On friday they all cut lots of circles out of the coloured paper we painted last week.

Next they carefully placed each circle onto their person and then glued them on.  Some groups are finished and some groups will finish next week.  Now they just need to be cut out!

I was SO proud of the amazing teamwork I observed during this task - it showed me how mature my little pickles have become over the last few months - they were helping each other, taking turns, giving advice in a kind way, making decisions as a team and encouraging each other.  I wished I could have recorded the conversations but my phone was too flat to record~

A BIG art project in Room 16

On Friday we began working on a HUGE art project that we will complete in groups. First we split into groups of three. Next we decided on a person in our group to be the 'poser' .... we used the sun outside to create a shadow silhouette which Nicky kindly traced around for us. In the afternoon we painted some pieces of paper different colours. Over the next few weeks we will cut out some circles from the coloured paper. We will also paint our people black and then stick the coloured pieces onto them. We think they will look amazing - and it's great to be working as part of a team too.

The Princess and the Pea

This week we have been reading The Princess and the Pea. We have had a lot of fun with this Fairy Tale. We decided we wanted to discover if our own Mums are real princesses. We had lots of fun doing this! First we came up with a secret plan! We had to find a way to test if our very own mum is a real princess! We came up with a sneaky idea - we would slip a pea under our Mum's mattress and then ask her how she slept the next morning. First we needed to find out how she usually slept.

Next we put our plan into action! We took home our own pea seed.  We had to slip them under out Mum's mattress while she wasn't looking!  It was so exciting to discover that so many of the Mums in our class really are princesses - we even have one Mum who is a real Queen because Lily found her crown in her drawers!

When we came to school today we did a survey to find out how many princess Mums we have!

We recorded our account of this special project - check out our movies here.

Ava very kindly brought along a fantastic wall hanging she has of the Princess and the Pea - we used this as inspiration for our own art work this week. We cut fabric into strips and made our own Princess and the Pea beds with lots of mattresses on them. Next we made a princess to lie on the bed and we added a pea under the mattresses. We even made our princess a crown and shoes.

A huge thanks to the Mums in our class for joining in the fun with this activity.  It has been so fantastic to see so many beautiful children so excited by this learning project.

Tomorrow we are tasting lots of different types of peas and writing about what we think of them!  I wonder what reaction the children will have!!!

We are also making crowns and jewellery for our Mums - we have a special photo of all of our Mums to do this with, I can't wait to see how special these look.

Tooth Fairy Fun

Today we finished our Tooth Fairy Pillows and Bags.

I wonder who the first person will be to lose a tooth and have a chance to test it out!

Puppet Fun

On Friday we completed our finger puppets. We used our plan and had to try to follow it closely. We did a great job. My favourite part of this whole process was watching the children put on puppet shows at the end.
