Today we discovered who Eric Carle is.

Eric Carle is  famous author and illustrator.

We watched this clip on You Tube to discover more about Eric Carle.

We looked closely at the Very Hungry Caterpillar today.  We watched how Eric Carle used paints to make interesting patterns and textures.  We had a turn at painting some paper green and adding textures to it.  We started with green paint an added a small amount of white paint.  We used our brushes and our fingers to make interesting textures on the paper.  Next week we will cut out circles to make our very own Very Hungry Caterpillars.

Our new topic is Forces- I like to move it, move it.

I am really excited about this topic.  We will be doing lots of experiments and finding out all about cool ways to make things move...and figuring out how lots of toys and every day objects move.

Maybe over the holidays you could have a look at your favourite toy or things around your house and figure out how they work....I'd love to hear how you get on.

The Last Week of Term

This is the final week of the term....and wow, we have so much to do!

We have our final movie making moments to perfect, posters to make and lots and lots and lots of popcorn to make too!

It is also the Big Day In on Wednesday.....I think everyone will be exhausted and ready for a holiday by Friday!

Honey Guide Bird

While we were reading our latest Magic Treehouse book Jack and Annie discovered the Honey Guide Bird.

We found a you tube clip about this amazing bird.

The Honey Guide bird lives in Africa.  It works together with people.  The bird lead people to the bee hives.  The people get the honey from the hive and then they leave the honey comb for the birds.

We thought this was pretty amazing.

Persevering

We are working hard to persevere when things get tricky.

Here is an example of each of us persevering.  We told our stories to Debbie and she recorded them.  Then we worked together to make them into an imovie.

Happy St Patrick's Day

This Sunday is St Patrick's Day.

Cillian is from Ireland!

He is going to teach us about what St Patrick's Day means....and he has the perfect Irish accent to share his story!  I can't wait to listen to him!

We have a day full of Irish, green fun!

Tanner's Visit to Room 16

Today Tanner visited our class.  She brought a HUGE dragonfly with her!

She found the dragonfly in Greymouth.

We were very interested in the dragonfly and asked some interesting questions.

Are you reading for a Teddy Bears Picnic?

I can't wait until tomorrow.  We are having our Teddy Bears Picnic.

We are making honey sandwiches for our teddies and we are making special teddy in bed biscuits!  We also have some special juice to share. .... and our delicious owl cakes too!

I'm looking forward to having some fun playing some old fashioned picnic games too.  We will have a go at a hoop race, wheelbarrow races, running races.

We learned about what a mini sub is, we discovered what coral looks like and we were fascinated by the Giant Clams.
