Magic Key Stories

I know that lots of you love the Magic Key reading books.

This website uses the same characters and has some fun games - have a go!

Reader's Theatre

Today we started learning our new Readers Theatre.

This will be our reading all week.  On Friday we will make some costumes and present our plays to the class.

I was very impressed with how independently the children were able to work in their groups to practice.

Room 24 Readers

Today Mr Williams brought his class to visit us.
These children have written their own books.

They read their books to our class and asked us questions.

We felt very special to work with these lovely Big Kids.

The Princess and the Pea

This week we have been reading The Princess and the Pea. We have had a lot of fun with this Fairy Tale. We decided we wanted to discover if our own Mums are real princesses. We had lots of fun doing this! First we came up with a secret plan! We had to find a way to test if our very own mum is a real princess! We came up with a sneaky idea - we would slip a pea under our Mum's mattress and then ask her how she slept the next morning. First we needed to find out how she usually slept.

Next we put our plan into action! We took home our own pea seed.  We had to slip them under out Mum's mattress while she wasn't looking!  It was so exciting to discover that so many of the Mums in our class really are princesses - we even have one Mum who is a real Queen because Lily found her crown in her drawers!

When we came to school today we did a survey to find out how many princess Mums we have!

 Ava very kindly brought along a fantastic wall hanging she has of the Princess and the Pea - we used this as inspiration for our own art work this week. We cut fabric into strips and made our own Princess and the Pea beds with lots of mattresses on them. Next we made a princess to lie on the bed and we added a pea under the mattresses. We even made our princess a crown and shoes.

A huge thanks to the Mums in our class for joining in the fun with this activity.  It has been so fantastic to see so many beautiful children so excited by this learning project.

Tomorrow we are tasting lots of different types of peas and writing about what we think of them!  I wonder what reaction the children will have!!!

We are also making crowns and jewellery for our Mums - we have a special photo of all of our Mums to do this with, I can't wait to see how special these look.

Book Character Day

What a LOT of fun today was, thank you so much to everyone for making such an effort with dressing up.

It was also great to see so many children having a go at the library competitions.

We visited the Book Fair today - have you talked to anyone at home about what happened?

Fun with our Friends

On Friday we invited Room 9 to come and see our Maps for the Giant's Kingdom.

We also shared our writing from this week with our Room 9 friends.  We did some singing together too it was so much fun.

Later in the day we played a great game called The Bucket Game against Room 15.  We learned about strategies that can help a game more successful!  Team work is very important in team games.

Welcome to Book Week

I am super excited about seeing you all dressed up tomorrow!
I wonder who you will come to school as!  I wonder if you will be able to find a book your character is from - I am hoping you will be able to read your book to us all tomorrow.

There are some great competitions set up in the library - head on down in your lunch time tomorrow to get started on them.

The Enchanted Classroom

Today when the children arrived at school they were excited to discover our Enchanted Forest in the classroom.

I loved watching them read in this special part of our classroom.

Books

Miss Israa, the teacher

Today, after lunch, Israa asked if she could read some stories to the class. I was excited by this idea! Israa did the most amazing job of sharing her books with the class. She asked questions, she invited different children to come and read parts of her stories an even gave out house points! Israa, you made me very proud today.

Library Fun

Today we went to a show the Christchurch Librarians put on for us. We listened to a story and watched a story be acted out and also joined in with a rhyme. It was a lot of fun.

Reading Fun

This week our reading time has been a bit different because Mrs Pelham has needed to some testing with us.  Instead of having reading books with Mrs Pelham we each chose our own favourite class library book.

First we read the book on our own or with a buddy or with Tracey.

Next we thought about what the story was about.

We learned what a BLURB is and we explored some of these on the books we were reading.

Then we wrote our own blurb for the book we had chosen.

After this, we drew a cover for our book.  Then we decorated the back and glued our blurb on.

Mrs Pelham took photos of us reading our books.

We look fantastic!

We are all excited about the books we read and can't wait to read some of the books our friends chose.

Cooper's Great Report and Grace's Great Description

Today Cooper read a book called My Pets.

He wrote a fantastic report about his pet cat called Rex.

I was very proud of the way Cooper was able to write such a great report and also that he read his book so well.

Keep up the great work Cooper.

Grace wrote a fantastic character description about Nelson the baby elephant.  She used some excellent language.  I was very pleased with her.

ICT in Action

Our Class LOVES using ICT for all sorts of things.

We are great at using our blog and the links from it to help us learn.

We are also very good at using the ipad.

Today at Reading Time I noticed a lot of ICT being used for different purposes.
