Art Day

We had a huge day of art on Friday.

We read the book The Very Lonely Firefly by Eric Carle.  We studied the pictures too so we could see how he made his collage illustrations.  Have a look at the story on this clip.

Next we painted the background for our art work using black and blue paint.
We also painted a piece of paper with red on one half and brown on the other to make our firefly's wings and body.

We turned the heaters up really high to dry our paint during lunch time.  After lunch we put our art together and added wobbly eyes and a glowing tail to our firefly and stars to our background.

We listened to Fireflies while we worked.

It was a very busy and fun day.

Have a look at us here.

Eric Carle Experts

Today we continued our work on our Eric Carle collage of the Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Last week we painted our paper green ready to make our own caterpillars like Eric Carle.  We also learned about how Eric Carle makes his collages by watching you tube clips.

Today we traced around a cup to make circles on our green paper- this is a tricky skill and we did really well.  Next we cut the circles out - again, we did a great job of this.

We glued our circles onto black paper in an interesting caterpillar way.  We needed to overlap our circles for the best effect.

Next we made our caterpillar a head by cutting out a red circle and then adding eyes and antennae.

We also made tiny little legs for our caterpillar.

We are very proud of our art work - what do you think of it?

Eric Carle

Today we discovered who Eric Carle is.

Eric Carle is  famous author and illustrator.

We watched this clip on You Tube to discover more about Eric Carle.

We looked closely at the Very Hungry Caterpillar today.  We watched how Eric Carle used paints to make interesting patterns and textures.  We had a turn at painting some paper green and adding textures to it.  We started with green paint an added a small amount of white paint.  We used our brushes and our fingers to make interesting textures on the paper.  Next week we will cut out circles to make our very own Very Hungry Caterpillars.
