Butterfly Life Cycles

We have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly.

Today we made some really neat life cycles using pasta pieces!

Thanks to Wendy (Hayden's Mum) for staying to help us.

Later in the day we wrote some amazing reports about how caterpillars change.  We used some amazing language.

We also watched a You Tube clip that showed a caterpillar's life cycle.

Caterpillar update

Today when we arrived at school one of our caterpillars had changed into a chrysalis. That was very exciting
....the othe caterpillar was missing!

Everyone looked hard and eventually Bina found our missin friend behind the book case!

We returned the caterpillar to the plant bu there are no leaves left!  Hayden's mum is bringing in some pumpkin for the caterpillar to eat tomorrow.

A sad update

Today when we arrived at school we were so excited to see if the caterpillar had transformed into a chrysalis.

It was so exciting to see the children rushing over to check and so very disappointing for them to discover that overnight our caterpillar had indeed attempted to change however sadly something had gone wrong and the partially formed chrysalis had come away from the mobilo and fallen.

We are still excited to know we have two more caterpillars that are nearly ready to change.

Caterpillars

We have got three caterpillars in our classroom.

We have been interested in watching them eat the leaves on the swan plants.  We have noticed they eat a LOT of leaves every day and the caterpillars get very big very quickly!

Today when we arrived at school Mrs Pelham noticed one caterpillar was MISSING!!
Amelia had a hunt and found it hanging in a 'j' shape on Finn's mobilor creation.  What a surprise!

We moved it to our whiteboard so we can watch it closely.

We predict that it will change into a chrysalis very soon.

Nethasa thinks it will change after hometime today.
Ava thinks it will change tonight while we are sleeping.
