Yer One Athletics
Today was teh Year One Athletics Sports Day.
We had a great idea for a mini inquiry!
Our Plan
Our class watched some of the sports.
We took photos while we watched.
Then we thought of some questions we can ask the Year One children tomorrow.
We will interview the Year One children and then make up some news reports about the Athletic Sports.
We will video the Year Ones being interviewed and we will write our own news stories then we will make an imovie about the Year One Athletics.
When it is all finished we will share it with the Year One children.
Here are some questions we could ask

Here are some questions we could ask
- were you nervous?
- were you excited?
- how were you feeling?- before teh sports and after the sports?
- did you feel a little bit scared?
- when you finished all the sports were you puffed and tired?
- Did you have fun?
- Did you have a goal?
- do you think you were good at athletics?
- how did your racing go?
- did you do your best?
- how did the people who fell over react?
- how did you feel?
- did you have a great time?
- was it exhausting?
- what was your favourite part of athletics day?
- how did you prepare for the sports day?
We emailed the Year One teachers to ask if we can go to their classes to interview the children. This is our email.
Dear Teachers
Our class loved watching your Athletic Sports today. We had fun and think you did really well.
We are doing a mini inquiry in our class. We would love to interview some children from your class tomorrow (Wednesday). We are making news reports and a news story. We will be ready after morning tea. Would be okay to come to your class and ask some questions please? We will record your answers on our iPads and Mrs Pelham's phone.
Please let us know if we can come to your room or if another time would be better.

Rosie's Dairy
Our Brainstorm
We learned
Our Recount
Orientation
We went to the hall to see a show called Rosie's Dairy. We were expecting to see a show about a girl. We were so surprised when Rosie turned out to be a Dairy Cow!
First
We waited outside the hall when Mrs Ashby blew her whistle. We did the roll and then we went inside the hall with all the other classes. It was quite noisy then a man waved his hands and the show began!
Next
At the start of the show a girl called Becky who worked on the farm came out. The dairy cow, Rosie, came out as well. Matt also came out. They sang a funny song about Rosie. We said hello in cow! MOOOOOOO.
Then
When Rosie was watching Matt playing on his PSP she kept looking at him and asked for a turn - but she had HOOVES not hands so she couldn't play it. She dropped it on the ground and nearly stepped on it instead. Matt said MOOOOOVE over!
Matt made Rosie cry because he wasn't being kind to her.
We learned about the parts of a farm. We thought it was clever because the actors changed the back boards to make new scenes. We discovered the front paddock, back paddock, milking shed and farm house are all on the farm.
Becky took Matt to the house for the night. He was super tired and fell asleep quickly. The next morning Becky woke him up before the sun was up. Matt moaned - moo. He had to help do lots of jobs. The first job was to milk the cow. Matt was not doing a good job.
Rosie and Becky taught Matt why milk is important. Milk gives us cheese, cream, yoghurt and ice cream so if he doesn't milk the cows well we won't have these things. Matt started to work harder. We thought this was FARMTASTIC.
Finally
Matt understood why milk and farms are so important.
We thought the show was Cow Pai!
- Matt kept touching the electric fence and zapping himself
- Matt didn't want to hug Rosie
- Matt didn't know how to milk the cows - but he said he did
- Matt made Rosie cry
- Matt was being very silly because he kept throwing all the milk away
- Matt kept playing on his PSP
- Matt was surprised that the Becky could do a secret triple combo move on the PSP and he was angry
- Becky wanted to help Matt
- Matt stood in poo
- Matt kept hopping when he had poo on his shoe
- Matt said he wasn't tired but he actually was and fell asleep quickly
- It was still dark when Matt and Becky woke up in the morning
- They got up really early to do all the jobs
- They had to milk the cows before they had breakfast
- Rosie danced with Becky and Matt
- Farmtastic
- Moooove
- Cow Pai
We learned
- that you need to do the milking or you won't have butter, milk, yoghurt, ice cream and cheese
- always be careful and take care of the cows
- milk has lots of nutrients in it
- milk makes you healthy
- there are different kinds of milk
- there are different parts to the farm like the front paddock, milking sheds, back paddock
- don't handle the cows too much
- cows have an udder and that's where the milk comes from
- cows have four stomachs
- they eat the grass and chew it and swallow it, then they burp it back up again and chew it again then swallow it and goes into different stomaches
- cows can give you a very powerful slap if they get a fright

I see, I think, I wonder .... I write!
Today we began a new writing adventure with our writing.
We looked closely at a picture (which I will post in a day or two).
We spent lots of time talking about what we could see. Then we had a go at writing what we could see - but there was one key word we were not allowed to use! (I'll tell you that word later!).
Our goal is to have people read our writing and form a picture in their head of what we could see ... then we will show them the photo to see how close they were.
We have sent home a copy to our parents for them to have a go at ... next we will do some thinking about these creatures and then some wondering - we will end the term with a great wee inquiry.

Disney Heroes
Today we wrote a letter to a real Disney Prince or Princess.
We are going to publish our letters and send them to Disneyland.
It is the first time we have written letters and we thought hard about how to set a letter out.
Hayden did such a great job that he took his work to Mrs Warren!
We hope we get a letter in reply.

Room 24 Readers
Today Mr Williams brought his class to visit us.
These children have written their own books.
They read their books to our class and asked us questions.
We felt very special to work with these lovely Big Kids.

The Princess and the Pea
This week we have been reading The Princess and the Pea.
We have had a lot of fun with this Fairy Tale.
We decided we wanted to discover if our own Mums are real princesses. We had lots of fun doing this!
First we came up with a secret plan! We had to find a way to test if our very own mum is a real princess!
We came up with a sneaky idea - we would slip a pea under our Mum's mattress and then ask her how she slept the next morning. First we needed to find out how she usually slept.
Next we put our plan into action! We took home our own pea seed. We had to slip them under out Mum's mattress while she wasn't looking! It was so exciting to discover that so many of the Mums in our class really are princesses - we even have one Mum who is a real Queen because Lily found her crown in her drawers!
When we came to school today we did a survey to find out how many princess Mums we have!
We recorded our account of this special project - check out our movies here.
Ava very kindly brought along a fantastic wall hanging she has of the Princess and the Pea - we used this as inspiration for our own art work this week. We cut fabric into strips and made our own Princess and the Pea beds with lots of mattresses on them. Next we made a princess to lie on the bed and we added a pea under the mattresses. We even made our princess a crown and shoes.

A huge thanks to the Mums in our class for joining in the fun with this activity. It has been so fantastic to see so many beautiful children so excited by this learning project.
Tomorrow we are tasting lots of different types of peas and writing about what we think of them! I wonder what reaction the children will have!!!
We are also making crowns and jewellery for our Mums - we have a special photo of all of our Mums to do this with, I can't wait to see how special these look.

Fun with our Friends
On Friday we invited Room 9 to come and see our Maps for the Giant's Kingdom.
We also shared our writing from this week with our Room 9 friends. We did some singing together too it was so much fun.
Later in the day we played a great game called The Bucket Game against Room 15. We learned about strategies that can help a game more successful! Team work is very important in team games.
