Harper's BIG Question

This morning before school Harper asked

are dinosaur teeth the same as shark teeth?

What a great questions.

We typed the question into Google.

We found this link Harper's Dinosaur Research

and this is the answer to my question

Plant eater dinosaurs and sharks have the same kind of teeth.  They have lots of extra teeth that come when their old teeth are broken or old.  They got new teeth about once a month.
Meat eaters just kept the same teeth for about three years.

A Dinoaur World

Today we learned about dinosaur environments.  We discovered that an environment is where something lives and what the world around it looks like.
We discovered that dinosaurs had lots of volcanoes around them and also lots of trees, rivers, water holes, grass, other dinosaurs, caves, sand, nests, eggs, fossils, stones, bones.

We worked in a group that  Mrs Pelham picked - we had to work with people we don't usually work with - this was fun and a challenge at the same time.

Our group all did a dinosaur volcano and put dinosaurs on it.

Our Teacher, Mrs Pelham, put vinegar, food colouring and baking soda in the hole and made our volcanes erupt.

We put dinosaurs on and made a dinsoaur world and we made the volcano explode - Tiaan

We put grass around our dinosaur world - Cooper

Mrs Pleham split us into groups.  We lined up by the door then we went out to the sandpit.  We made a volcano by piling up sand and putting water on it.  Then we got some dinosaurs from the dinosaur box.  When we were done we tested out our volcanoes with baking soda and vinegar.  We all watched to see - Lily

Some dinosaurs died when it got lava inside it's mouth! - Harper

We put sand and water on the volcano and some groups made theirs deep and some made them shallow.  When we were done we put dinosaurs around the volcano.  Mrs Pelham put some vingear and baking soda and red food colouring in.  There were little holes were the lava went.  Bina

Dinosaur feet

Have a look at these huge dinosaur feet!

Dinosaur Egg

Today we put a dinosaur egg into some water, we are going to watch it hatch over the next few days. I asked the children to think of a HYPOTHESIS about how the dinosaur might hatch out of the egg. I was impressed with the thinking they did. Listen to these great ideas.

Charlotte's Dinosaur Maths

Charlotte has also had a go at comparing the size of her foot to a dinosaur's foot. Have a look at this fantastic work Charlotte shared with us today.

Brilliant Bernie

As part of our home learning this week we are comparing the size of a dinosaur footprint to our own.
Bernie did this over the weekend - look at what he discovered!

Bernie, I was so incredibly proud of you today - you had completed your home learning before school even started back for the term .... and even more wonderful was the way you spoke so clearly and confidently in front of our class.  I was so impressed with all of your dinosaur knowledge and that you were so confident to share it with us - you are amazing Bernie.

Dinosaur Dig

Today we became Palaeontologists.
We made a magnifying glass and then we went on a Dinosaur Fossil Adventure.

We went to the Egg Playground.
We used our magnifying glasses to hunt for dinosaur fossils.

We all found some!

Then we went back to our class and used toothbrushes, tweezers and water to free our fossil.

It was amazing - Charlotte
It was hard to get the dinosaurs out - Briannah
we got our toothbrush, tweezers and water.  We scrubbed at the fossils - it was mightily hard to get out but we each got our dinosaur out in the end - Riley B
I had water on my fossil to get the dinosuar out - Fatai
The fossils looked like plain rocks - Bina
In the fossil there were little toy dinosaurs - Ava
I tried my best to get the toy out - Nethasa
We also learned about using our hairclips as tweezers! Great thinking Lily! - Harper
I tried to get my dinorsaur out with a toothbrush - Tiaan
We needed toothbrushes and tweezers to get the dinosaurs out of their fossils - Lily
We had to find dirt that covered a dinosaur - it was really hard to get out - Ashley

The Magic Treehouse

We are very excited to have started reading the Magic Treehouse series of books by Mary Pope Osbourne.

Today we started to read Dinosaurs before Dawn.

We found out how Annie and Jack discovered an amazing Magic Treehouse in the forest.
They opened a book that meant they could see real dinosaurs!

We drew the Magic Treehouse in our reading book, it was our first time at using our new school books!

Hayden was an Outstanding Wise Learner and he became our Dinosaur Expert.  He knows so much about dinosaurs and he shared what he knows with our class.  We tried to ask him lots of dinosaur questions .... Hayden was amazing because he could answer them all!
