South Africa Freedom Day

April 27 is Freedom Day in South Africa.
This is a very special day for people in South Africa because it celebrates the day that all South African people were allowed to vote for a President for their country.

In our class we have Lily, Tiaan and Emma who have all come from South Africa.
We hope you and your families can celebrate this special day in style.

St John Ambulance

Today we learned about how to call for help if we have an emergency.

We had a special visitor from St Johns who showed us a mini ambulance, she showed us the oxygen mask and we even felt the oxygen mist.  Cillian, Bina and Tiaan were lucky enough to try on a St Johns Jacket too.  They looked amazing.

We discovered that St Johns Ambulances and Staff all have yellow and green stripes to help us know who they are.

We practiced dialing 111 in case we have an emergency.  We are allowed to practice this on old phones or toy phones but not the real thing!

We also discovered that there is a very cool club called Penguins which is where children who are six years old are allowed to go along and learn about first aid, play games and earn badges.  I have enrolled Amelia in this club for term two....I wonder if any Room 16 children will be keen to join too.

Assembly

Room 16, you made me so proud today.
You presented a wonderful assembly and I think the children and parents enjoyed it too.

I will add some photos soon....until I get my new phone it's a bit tricker to add photos!

Sam Bear will look great in our classroom too..... congratulations to Tiaan and Riley who won the lucky prize draw for the ball and clip and climb ticket.

Well done to
Harper who received this week's Heart of Achievement.  Harper, you are a beautiful, energetic and enthusiastic learner.  I love your sense of fun and the way you are a careful thinker.  I especially loved the way you played Marley in your movie....you were fantastic.

Elenoa- you are a kind, caring and wonderful girl.  You have outstanding manners, you are willing to help others all of the time and you are an excellent role model of St Albans School values.

Finn, you received your award because you are working so hard to learn your basic facts....and you are making great progress too.

Great work Tiaan and Cooper

Today the children wrote AMAZING reports about an animal of their choice.

I was so impressed with the WOW words they used and the great ideas they shared.  I especially liked the way they could use the report writing format we have been learning about in a very independent way.

After the children wrote their report they drew a diagram and labelled it.  We have been learning about diagrams at reading time.

I was very proud of the end result.  I will publish this writing over the Easter holiday.

Tiaan's report was so fantastic that he took it to Mrs Warren and got a special Principal's award.  It was very exciting for Tiaan.  I will add a photo tomorrow.

Cooper read like a Super Star today.  I was so excited when I was listening to him.  Cooper read like he was talking, it was fantastic!

He took his reading book to Mrs Warren and read it to her too.

Dinosaur Mural

Cillian, Tiaan, Ashley and Finn read a great book called Dinosaur Mural.

The book has instructions for how to make a dinosaur mural.

Today they made their own mural by following the instructions.

Home Learning

Today these children shared their butterfly life cycles with our class.

I was so impressed with the effort they made and that they could each explain the life cycle so well....and they each found a great way to present their information.

Great Grace and Teriffic Tiaan

Wow, have a look at Grace's kidsblog....she has figured out how to change the back ground and make it look very fancy!

Well done Miss Grace, you are a star.

Tiaan has also discovered this trick...and chosen a special background for his blog too.
I love the photo of Tiaan's oxen at the beach too.
