Today in our maths time we made these cute Elves to help us countdown to Christmas.

Reindeer Cookies
Over the last few weeks we have been working hard to understand fractions.
I promised the children that if they could show me they had a great knowledge of fractions we would put them to use in a 'real' way.
.... I have been so impressed with how well the children have been able to read and order fractions that today was the day!
We made our own 'chocolate gingerbread reindeer' by baking our own cookies. The trick was we were only allowed to use the following cup measures
1/4
1/3
1/2
Our recipe need full cups, and 3/4 cup measurements so we had to think hard about how we could make these measurements work ... or our cookies might have tasted a bit odd!
After we worked as a team and made a delicious dough we had a turn at using a rolling pin and gingerbread man cutter.
At lunch time Finn and Nicky baked our cookies in the Room 2 oven.
Our classroom smelt delicious when we came back after lunch. We left our cookies to cool while we went to the library.
When we came back to our classroom we had fun turning our gingerbread men into reindeer by turning the man on his head!

Maths a thon
Today we completed the maths a thon.
I was so proud of everyone.
The children worked so hard learning their basic facts at home and did such a great job at school today.
Thanks to all the parents for the wonderful support you gave your children .... I wonder how much money will be raised from this event?

Maths Challege
We had a maths challenge today.
We are learning to skip count and to count backwards from bigger numbers.
When we can do this on our own we can write our name on these pieces of paper and we get a sticker too.

Team Work
We continued our Team Work focus today.
I was proud of the children because they were each able to fulfil their own role within their group.
During maths time the children worked in groups to find different ways to make 93 - because today is day 93 of our 100 days of school.
Later, we designed our own book character. We drew our character and wrote words to describe them. We joined up with a buddy and had to plan an adventure for our two characters - then we worked together to write a great story.

Maths in the Real World
Today, after we had thought about how we could make teams work cooperatively during our writing time we split into teams and went in search of maths in the real world.
In our team we had a photographer and some spotters. We had to look for maths in the school grounds.
We found numbers, shapes, colours, symmetry and discovered maths really IS everywhere!!
