Sewing Fun
Today we began our second sewing project.
We cut a circle out of fabric and stitched a button to it.
On Friday we are going to stitch our creation onto a big piece of fabric and make it into a garden.
It will be fantastic.
Riley took these photos for us.

Wise Words
Today Riley shared some very wise words with us.....
he told us that
"Scientists spend a lot of time getting things wrong"
This is so true - but scientists also keep trying and trying and trying. They make changes and try again until they finally find the answers.
Riley, you are an Outstanding Wise Learner

Wordle Fun
Briannah, Riley B, Miles, Ava and Israa have been reading about wolves.
They thought about all the words they could use to describe wolves.
They tried to think of interesting WOW words.
Then they turned their words into wordles.
Have a look at these links.
Ava's wordle
Riley's Wordle
Miles' Wordle
Israa's Wordle
Briannah's Wordle
The children had to think about the words they would use then they had to decide on a layout, font, colour and shape.

Adding Big Numbers
Today at maths we learned really big numbers.
Such as 20 + 2 = 22
and 30 + 3 = 33
and 40 +1 = 41
We discovered that to add these big numbers we just take away the zero and swap it for the other number!
Look at us working out the big numbers

Maths Racing
Today we had a maths race to help us learn our basic facts.
Wow, we have some speedy mathematicians in our class!
We had fun racing to know the answer to basic facts. The boys and girls raced against each other....in the end it was a complete tie. Riley B, Bina, Nethasa, Bryn, Elenoa and Fatai are particularly speedy- and they can work addition problems out VERY quickly!

Dingoes at Dinnertime
Today we started reading a new Magic Treehouse book.
It is all about Australian animals.
"We discovered that marsupials are animals with pouches, " said Riley B.
"We listend to the kookaburra singing, they sound like they are laughing." said Harper.
We watched this you tube clip to listen to a kookaburra.

Assembly
Room 16, you made me so proud today.
You presented a wonderful assembly and I think the children and parents enjoyed it too.
I will add some photos soon....until I get my new phone it's a bit tricker to add photos!
Sam Bear will look great in our classroom too..... congratulations to Tiaan and Riley who won the lucky prize draw for the ball and clip and climb ticket.
Well done to
Harper who received this week's Heart of Achievement. Harper, you are a beautiful, energetic and enthusiastic learner. I love your sense of fun and the way you are a careful thinker. I especially loved the way you played Marley in your movie....you were fantastic.
Elenoa- you are a kind, caring and wonderful girl. You have outstanding manners, you are willing to help others all of the time and you are an excellent role model of St Albans School values.
Finn, you received your award because you are working so hard to learn your basic facts....and you are making great progress too.

Movie Making Progress
Today we did lots of work on our movies.
We got together with the other people in our groups and we began talking about things like voices, costumes, plot and character descriptions. We made some pictures of what we imagine our characters will look like and identified some key characteristics.
Bryn was busy directing his group of actors- Israa, Briannah, Miles and Ava as they were having a rehearsal of their movie.
I loved the feedback that Bryn provided to his team.
Riley's group had a great idea. Part of their movie is set in the Cashmere hills so Riley was keen to take his group to Victoria Park to film so of their movie. When Riley suggested this we were all very excited but we also realised it posed some problems too.
Riley shared the problems with Mrs Simmons and with our class.
Then we did some problem solving together.

Then we did some problem solving together.
The children suggested lots of ideas
- Mrs Pelham could take the children in the car - but what would happen to the rest of the class? - they could have a babysitter was one suggestion
- how would we get to Cashmere hills? the children thought we could use google maps to find the way
- we could use green screen filming and add a background of the Cashmere Hills
- we could use English Park hills to look like the Cashmere Hills
- we could ask Riley's Mum or Dad to take us - but we would have to ask Mrs Warren first and the parents of the other children too
The children then went on an adventure to English Park. The discovered the hills there were pretty good and they think they could probably use those hills to do the filming.
Our next step is to start writing scripts for the movies that are not yet written and then to work on our costumes. We are feeling very excited!
I am particularly pleased with the way the children are embracing this inquiry learning. They are driving the direction of this learning and it is so exciting!

Movie Scripts
Over the weekend I set a challenge for a few children to write movie scripts for our movie premier night.
Ava did a great job and Riley returned to school today with a super script too.
Today Riley read his script to us. He has some brilliant ideas and has used incredibly language. I can't wait to see his script turn into a movie.
Riley did such a great job he visited Mrs Warren and he was given an OWL pencil!
