Fairy Tale Fun

Today the children presented their Fairy Tale Reader's Theatre to our class and some wonderful parents who came along to watch. I was very proud of the children who did their best to use a loud, clear voice and speak slowly and with great expression. We used these to follow on from presenting our poem in the poetry competition - I was very impressed with the improvement the children showed. Special mention needs to be made of Finn - Finn was so confident and presented his lines clearly and proudly today. What a HUGE confidence boost in such a short time - I was very proud of you Finn. Charlotte, you also did a superb job of presenting your lines with confidence and expression, I loved it. Hayden, you were excellent at presenting your lines with expression. YOu followed the script well and always knew when it was your turn to speak. Lily and Grace - you had both learned your lines off by heart - and you used wonderful expression too.

Wearable Arts Cloaks

Today we began our plan for our wearable arts cloaks.

We chose a Fairy Tale that we want to represent.
We have done some inquiry learning around symbols and fairy tales.
We have discovered that we can use symbols to represent ideas.

Our challenge is to prepare a cloak that represents a fairy tale of our choice.

Our criteria are

  • our cloak needs to be robust enough to be worn for at least three parades (dress rehearsal, school performance, parent performance)
  • our cloak needs to represent a fairy tale
  • our design is to use symbols not faces
We asked some big questions
  • what are symbols?
  • how can we tell a story without words?
  • how can we symbolise a fairy tale without faces?
  • which colours are 'good' colours and which colours are 'bad' colours?
We did a great job of seeking answers to these questions.
We did some discovering by asking other people and also by looking on google.

Today we designed our cloak on paper and some of us even began to make our patterns - to do this we are cutting our designs out of newspaper and then we will use these patterns to cut the fabric out.  We have to remember to make our pieces BIG!

Disney Heroes

Today we wrote a letter to a real Disney Prince or Princess.

We are going to publish our letters and send them to Disneyland.

It is the first time we have written letters and we thought hard about how to set a letter out.

Hayden did such a great job that he took his work to Mrs Warren!

We hope we get a letter in reply.

Princess Mum

We used some photos of our Mums and made them into Princesses - because we now know they ARE real princesses!

Princess and the Pea continued

To finish off a GREAT week we had a pea tasting at school on Friday!

We tasted frozen peas, snap peas, pea sprouts and pea soup.

After we tasted each thing we drew a picture and wrote a word to describe what we thought it tasted like.  We made these really cute books because it was also Book Week!
